Design

The Acer Predator Helios 300 (G3-571-77QK) comes with a pretty clear idea when it comes to the design. This is a gaming laptop and they have treated this like one. It is not one of those slim laptops you would find catering to the latest trend out there. This one is a well-designed gaming laptop and you realise that the moment you pick it on your hand.

The laptop comes in black and has a nice industrial finish. It carries the Predator branding on the top and comes with a black and red color scheme. On opening the laptop, the keyboard and the touchpad greet you with a nice touch.

The keyboard is neat and you will enjoy the decent key travel. It has red backlighting so you are good to go with gaming even in a place where there is not much light. The ASDW keys are highlighted so that’s one extra thing in favor of gamers. The touchpad is pretty decent but we’d suggest you get a nice gaming mouse as it is a much better option.

Another important thing here is the cooling. There are two fans as a part of the cooling system and they do a pretty good job. If you are planning a gaming marathon, then it is important to you that there is no throttling of any kind. With a cooling system like this in place, you don’t have to worry much about that aspect.

Acer Predator Helios 300 (G3-571-77QK) Specs

Acer Predator Helios 300 (G3-571-77QK) gaming laptopOne of the first few things you notice about this laptop is its display. This 15.6-inch LED-backlit display comes with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. Right from the get-go, you get a good feeling about this display. It shows colors accurately and is perfect for gaming and media consumption.

The viewing angles are pretty sweet and you don’t lose colors like you do in other screens when viewed from an obscure angle. One minor gripe here is that this display does not support touch. There are a lot of modern laptops that have a touchscreen at their disposal these days but this one doesn’t. If you are into touchscreens, then this one will be a disappointment to you.

The Acer Predator Helios (G3-571-77QK) is powered by an Intel Core i7 7700HQ processor. This is a quad-core processor that comes with a clocking frequency of 2.8GHz.  This is one of the best processors from the Kaby Lake generation. Whenever you need a little more power, the processor uses turbo boost and clocks up to 3.8GHz.

With this processor, you can run pretty much any application you want. Be it low-end stuff like office applications or high-end stuff like video editors and more, this processor can handle them all.

The processor gets a good bit of support from the 16GB of DDR4 RAM. For a gaming machine in this price range, this is a very good amount of memory. The memory sticks come with clocking frequency of 2400MHz and that’s a decent number. Though most of the gaming needs are taken care of the GPU, this memory does its job well and is pretty adequate.

GPU, Hard drive and more…

The Acer Predator Helios 300 (G3-571-77QK) comes with a Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 graphics card. This graphics card has 6 gigs of dedicated video memory that is of GDDR5 type. This GPU is, no doubt, a high-end one and gives you a lot of room to play your favorite games.

You can try any recent game with high settings and this one will blow it out of the water. Some of the games that run well with this graphics card are Wolfenstein II, Destiny 2, ELEX, The Evil Within 2, FIFA 18, Arc Survivor Evolved and many other titles.

The laptop comes with a 256GB solid state drive as the sole storage option. The good thing about this is that there is no compromise on the speed and performance. The system boots up in record time. The apps are so quick to launch and run and you can feel that speed upgrade throughout the UI. One disadvantage in the scenario is that you don’t get a lot of space to play with. You can, however, get an external hard drive if it is something that is very important to you.

One of the surprises in this laptop is the battery life. Acer promises a battery life of around 7 hours. That is a very ambitious claim and this one being a gaming laptop, it is almost impossible to get to those numbers. But we can say that this laptop is not that bad when it comes to battery life. With light usage, you can get around 6 hours of battery which is pretty good. With high-end gaming, you may squeeze out around 2 hours which is average in this gaming laptop category.

The laptop comes with a lot of connectivity options so you don’t feel like you are missing anything out there. One clear merit with this laptop is that you don’t have to embrace the dongle like just yet.

Acer Predator Helios 300 (G3-571-77QK) Review: Verdict

That brings this Acer Predator Helios 300 (G3-571-77QK) review to its end. This is a beast of a gaming machine in this price range. A good processor, enough RAM, and also an excellent graphics card makes this laptop even more suitable for gaming. If you are looking to game your heart out, then this one here is a great choice.
