Design

The chassis of this laptop is identical to the GL502VT and right now, we don’t see any form of unintended caps or manufacturing defects. On the keyboard, the WASD keys are highlighted in bright cone orange, which may not go well with some users, but we personally like this. Despite it all, the quality of the chassis is excellent and stronger than most laptops.

Thanks to the wide view panel, you will be able to see the display up to 160°. This means you probably won’t be able to notice a color difference, even when you are viewing it from odd positions. The same cannot be said about some of the other laptops currently on the market – even the slightest screen shift will make it hard to see the screen.

The cooling in this ASUS ROG STRIX GL502VY-DS71 laptop is pretty good. With proper cooling, you can have longer gaming sessions, without having to worry about the laptop overheating. While the screen size is a nice 15.6 inches, the laptop itself only weighs 6.2 pounds.

It has a GTX 980M in it, making it fully capable of playing the latest video games on high settings at 1080p60. However, in the following years, the 4 GB VRAM will become more of a bottleneck, especially if you have the settings on higher resolutions and are using an external monitor.

The Hyper Cool Duo-Copper cooling system in this laptop uses heat pipes along with a dual fan system in order to cool the CPU and GPU. This design gives the laptop the stability it needs for intense gaming marathons.

This laptop has USB Type-C connectivity as well as mini DisplayPort. With the reversible USB Type-C port, you will have hyper-fast 10Gbps data transfer speeds. This means you should be able to transfer a 2GB movie file within a couple of seconds.
