The ASUS ROG Zephyrus GX501VS-XS71 is made of aluminum and comes in a nice black shade. The build is sturdy and the first impression is very premium. The hinge is a nice touch and you don’t feel a lot while opening the laptop. The weight of the laptop is surprisingly low at 4.9 pounds. This means you can take this notebook with you without even noticing anything extra on you.
The keyboard and the touchpad have been moved to a slightly different location. The WASD keys are highlighted so that it is easier for gamers. The keys have good travel but we are not sure how good the typing experience is going to be, thanks to the new position of the keyboard. The touchpad is now on the right extreme of the keyboard. This is a good position for gamers and it fits in nicely as well. The space at the top has been used for the speakers.
ASUS ROG Zephyrus GX501VS-XS71 Specs
One of the most important features of the ASUS ROG Zephyrus GX501VS-XS71 is the display. We have a 15.6-inch display that comes with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. The resolution paves way for sharper images and texts and as a result, the viewing experience is a lot better.
The screen here has a refresh rate of 120Hz. This is not the case with most of the laptops out there. With a refresh rate like this, the display can give super smooth movements on the screen. Be it the simple UI elements on screen or your favorite game, you can see that fluidity and never go back.
This is also an anti-glare display which means it doesn’t reflect much. This is particularly handy if there is a lot of light in your room. The display also has support for Nvidia G-Sync feature. Nvidia G-Sync also helps in elevating the gaming experience by matching the refresh rate of the display to that of the GPU.
The ASUS ROG Zephyrus GX501VS-XS71 is powered by an Intel Core i7 7700HQ processor. This is a quad-core processor that comes with a clock speed of 2.8GHz and can be clocked to a maximum of 3.8GHz. There is cache memory of 6MB and it can be useful as well.
This is a powerful processor and can handle your everyday activities well. Be it games or complex applications like Photoshop and Matlab, this Intel chip blows them out of the water.
What’s the memory available in the ASUS ROG Zephyrus GX501VS-XS71? There is an 8GB DDR4 memory onboard in addition to another 8 gigs of DDR4. So totally, you have 16 gigs of DDR4 memory. This is a pretty good number when it comes to gaming and is perfect for multitasking as well.
Graphics, Storage and others…
The ASUS ROG Zephyrus GX501VS-XS71 comes with a Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 graphics card. This is probably the best graphics card you can get in a laptop these days. This one is based on the Pascal architecture and comes with a dedicated memory of 8GB GDDR5.
Since it also comes with G-Sync support, the gaming experience with this GPU is just excellent. Below are some games and their frame rates with high settings.
- Wolfenstein II – 118FPS
- Assassin’s Creed Origins – 70FPS
- ELEX – 98FPS
- The Evil Within 2 – 58FPS
- Middle-Earth: Shadow of War – 105FPS
- FIFA 18 – 278FPS
- PUBG – 90FPS
- Rocket League – 211FPS
The above frame rates will give you a better idea of this GPU. With this, you are ready to face the best titles even in the coming few years.
When it comes to the storage department, the laptop has a 256GB PCIe NVMe solid state drive. This is a very fast storage solution and we are genuinely happy that ASUS has included this in here. We have to agree that there is not a lot of space with only 256 gigs in hand but for this speed, we can compromise a bit. The solid state drive comes with Windows 10 installed.
There are a lot of connectivity options as well. You get a USB 3.1 port with Thunderbolt, 3 USB 3.0 ports, an HDMI port and also a headphone jack. The laptop also has Bluetooth and 802.11ac wireless connectivity. They should have included an Ethernet port for people who prefer a wired internet connection but that’s not a big deal.
