There is nothing new in the design of this laptop. The design is classic ASUS with their logo in the middle of the lid. The dark grey lid comes with a textured finish which is good to feel. When you open the lid, you’ll find the silver-colored inside which is pleasant to the eyes.
The keys are well spaced and come with decent travel. The dedicated number pad is something people will enjoy if they really have some use for it. The trackpad is just standard stuff and nothing more.
With dimensions of 9.9 x 15 x 1.20 inches, the laptop weighs around 5.1 pounds which is pretty light for a laptop with a 15.6-inch screen. It is easy to carry around and will serve well as a good travel companion.
That’s about the design. Let’s take a look at the specs.
ASUS X550ZA-WB11 Specs
The display in the ASUS X550ZA-WB11 is a 15.6-inch LED-backlit screen with a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. This is just HD resolution but is good enough to give you good quality pictures. You can watch HD movies and consume other media without any problem.
The screen doesn’t have great viewing angles. So if you take a look at it from the sides, the pictures are not as good. This is a common problem among the laptops in this price range but not a deal breaker.
The processor that powers this machine is an AMD A10 7400p which clocks at 2.5GHz. This quad-core processor is a fast one and it can clock up to 3.4GHz with the help of the turbo functionality. This processor has the power to run the operating system and other applications without any issues.
The processor is well complimented by the memory. There are 8 gigs of DDR3 RAM in the memory slot which is a very good number for a mid-range laptop. It allows you to run multiple applications at the same instant without facing any performance lag.
You can increase the RAM in the future if you feel the need for it. But our opinion is that this RAM should be enough for most of the activities and anything above it is just overkill and will cost you some.
The hard drive comes with a storage capacity of 1TB which is ample space. You can store all your games, videos, pictures and other stuff you treasure. The speed of the hard drive is only 5400RPM which isn’t the fastest. But it is not a deal breaker in any way.
The operating system is Windows 8.1 64-bit version. This is the latest Windows operating system yet. Windows 10 release is just around the corner and you can upgrade to it for free by reserving your copy of Windows 10.
The graphics card in the ASUS X550ZA-WB11 laptop is AMD Radeon R6. This is a decent graphics card from AMD and allows you to do moderate gaming in your laptop. You can play some famous titles with reduced settings. But if you want to play the latest and greatest, that’s not quite possible with this laptop.
There are loads of connectivity options here. Wireless standards such as 802.11b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.0 are supported. There are a couple of USB 3.0 ports which is pretty handy. There is also a DVD writer which can be used for both reading and writing DVDs.
The laptop has an international warranty for one year with accident protection damage for one year as well. This is neat as laptops these days are prone to more damage due to travel and other factors.
ASUS X550ZA-WB11 Review: Verdict
This ASUS X550ZA-WB11 review should have clearly told you what’s possible with this laptop. This is a mid-range device that can do more than just your everyday activities. If you are searching for a cheaper mid-range laptop, then this might be a good choice.
