There is nothing different if you are someone who has seen ASUS’s laptops. It comes with a neat design that manages to give you a premium look and for the price, we don’t complain. The outside is in a darker shade of grey while the insides are more silvery in color.
You get a black, fully functional keyboard. The travel is good, and typing should be a pleasant experience on this keypad. The trackpad is responsive, and nothing more can be said in that area. The power button is placed on top of the keyboard. If you are someone who accidentally turned off your laptop a lot of times, you can breathe now.
With dimensions of 9.95 x 15 x 1.20 inches, the laptop weighs around 5.1 pounds. This is not that heavy, and the laptop might join you on your future travel trips as well if the battery permits (more on that later).
ASUS X550ZE-DB10 Specs
You are greeted with a 15.6-inch screen once you open the lid. This is an LED-backlit HD widescreen display that comes with a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. The picture quality is good for the price, and you can enjoy working on this display. The screen is also suitable for watching movies and other kinds of media consumption as well.
The processor that powers this ASUS X550ZE-DB10 laptop is an AMD A10 processor. This A10 7400P processor is a quad-core processor that comes with a clocking frequency of 2.5GHz. This clocking frequency can be, with the help of turbo, increased up to 3.4GHz which is neat.
This is a mid-range processor, and it works like one. It runs almost any applications without any issues. Be it a simple word processing app or a resource-intensive photo editing app, this processor runs them all.
The memory department supports the processor nicely. There are eight gigs of DDR3 RAM that are pretty good for a mid-range user. You can multitask without having to worry about any lag. With a widescreen, you can open up two apps side by side at the same time and work on them. The memory is not that easily upgradeable by the user. So be sure that this is enough before you get into the train.
For storage, you get a spacious 1TB 7200RPM hard drive. This drive has a decent balance in terms of both speed and space. The hard drive also comes with Windows 8.1 pre-installed in it. This is a 64-bit version and has the latest features you need.
You can also upgrade to Windows 10 for free. This is the most recent offering from MS, and it does an excellent job of an operating system. It comes with some excellent features like a new digital assistant, Cortana and a completely redesigned browser, Edge. Totally worth the update.
The graphics card in the ASUS X550ZE-DB10 laptop is an AMD Radeon dual graphics R7 265X. This is a mid-range graphics card, and it allows you to do some really good gaming. You can play most of the games without any problems. For the latest games, though, you will have to reduce the settings in order to get a playable frame rate.
Battery life is okay, and you can expect the notebook to last for about 4 to 5 hours depending on the usage. If you are a light user, you might get a better battery life, and you can also improve it by optimizing the settings a bit. For example, you can reduce the brightness in darker environments.
The laptop has both 802.11b/g/n and Bluetooth connectivity. There are a couple of USB 3.0 ports that are fast when it comes to data transfer. There is also a DVD drive that can make a lot of people happy.
ASUS X550ZE-DB10 Review: Verdict
The ASUS X550ZE-DB10 15.6-inch laptop is a good choice for the price. It has a nice processor, enough memory, and you can also get your hands on the latest operating system. If you are a light or a mid-range user searching for a laptop, then this one fits the bill.
