Design

The laptop is classic dell. In other words, there is nothing new in terms of the design. It looks old and definitely not the most attractive. But it still is very operational which is what matters to us. There is an HD webcam in the front which is perfect for making video calls.

The keypad is well spaced and has good travel. There is also a number pad which some of us find very useful. The trackpad is pretty standard and nothing out of the ordinary. The textured inside is great to place your hands on as the palm rest is kinda big.

With dimensions of 11.15 x 16.41 x 1.15 inches, the laptop weighs around 7.4 pounds which isn’t exactly light. If you are someone who travels a lot this is not the companion you are looking for.

Dell Inspiron 17 5000 Series i5758-1428BLK Specs

The display here is a 17.3-inch LED-backlit HD display. It comes with a resolution of 1600 x 900 pixels which is better than the regular HD displays. This balances the pixel density which could have gone down for a larger screen.

The widescreen offers a nice visual experience. It is great for media consumption like watching movies, streaming videos online and even playing games. Even for office work like sending mail and working of office suites, the screen is a great fit. This also offers you great productivity improvement, thanks to the widescreen display

The Dell Inspiron 17 5000 Series i5758-1428BLK is powered by an Intel core i3 5005U processor. This is a 5th gen Intel processor that clocks at 2.2GHz. This i3 processor is great for users who don’t need a lot of power. It is perfect for people mainly work on your day to day activities.

Dell Inspiron 17 5000 Series i5758-1428BLK 17.3-inch laptopThis processor runs the operating system smoothly. You can check your email, browse the web, enjoy your social media and even stream videos. All these activities are butter smooth, thanks to the Broadwell-based processor.

The memory here is a 4GB DDR3L RAM. Truth be told, this is not the greatest RAM. But what this RAM can do is often underestimated. You can run many of your favorite apps at the same time without any lag in the performance.

With Intel’s hyperthreading in place, you can also run multithreaded applications like Office suites and even Photoshop. The possibilities are a lot more than what most of the people would say.

The storage space is the next thing we’re going to see in this Dell Inspiron 17 5000 Series i5758-1428BLK review. We have 500 gigs of storage in the hard drive. This is a decent amount of storage and is good enough for most of the light users. If you need more storage then you can easily get an external hard drive which is a lot cheaper than an upgrade.

The operating system we have pre-installed in the hard drive is the Windows 8.1. You can upgrade it to Windows 10 for free for the first year. All you have to do is to reserve your OS and you’ll get to download your copy once it releases.

Intel HD graphics is the integrated graphics card and is nothing special. You can do some casual to moderate gaming at best. You might be able to run some famous titles at reduced settings. But if you want to run the latest ones, you are going to be disappointed. Check out a serious gaming laptop if you are an avid gamer.

There is a single USB 3.0 port and 2 USB 2.0 ports. There is an HDMI port which allows you to connect your laptop with a higher end device like an HD display or a projector. There is also a media card reader which will be useful for many.

For wireless connectivity, the laptop supports both 802.11a/c and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity.
