The HP 15-ay191ms comes in black and has a plastic design. It does look neat but the touch does not the feel that premium. For the price, you can say that the design comes off well. The keyboard here is a full-size one with a dedicated number pad. This could be very useful if you work with numbers all day.

HP 15-ay191ms laptopThe trackpad is fine. It is small but accurate enough to get things done. There is an HD webcam at the top and you can use that for making video calls and stuff. There is a good number of ports but more on that later. The laptop weighs around 4.6 pounds. It is not that heavy and will be a lot easier to carry compared to laptops in the same price range. Overall, a decent design that is more practical than just looks.

HP 15-ay191ms Specs

The display in the HP 15-ay191ms laptop is a 15.6-inch screen that comes with a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. This is just an HD display with a WLED setup. The colors and contrast are good for the price. You should enjoy watching movies on this screen. Another good thing is that this also doubles up as a touchscreen. So you can use all the touch gestures on the screen to get more out of your laptop.

The HP 15-ay191ms is powered by an Intel Core i3 7100 processor. This is a processor from the Kabylake generation and is the latest from Intel. This is a dual-core processor that clocks at 2.4GHz. Even though this is just an i3 chip, it is much more powerful in comparison with its predecessors.

The CPU gets a CPUMark score of around 3800 which is very impressive considering the fact that this is only a dual-core i3 chip. In real life usage, you should be able to run pretty much anything without a sweat. When it comes to high-end applications, there might be some issues but with regular stuff like office apps, this processor will handle them fine.

There are eight gigs of DDR4 RAM in the memory department. This is a pretty good number especially when the main target users for the laptop are students and home users. You can do some serious multitasking with this memory. You can open more browser tabs, run more apps at the same time, and much more.

For storage, the HP 15-ay191ms comes with a 1TB mechanical hard drive. The good thing here is that it gives you a lot of space to play with. The bad thing is that it is a bit too slow for the modern world. Solid state drives are ruling the roost these days and a hard drive just can’t match it. You will be fine with everyday stuff but if you have already used an SSD then it is going to be hard.

The hard drive comes with Windows 10 pre-installed. This is the latest and the greatest stuff from Microsoft. It comes with a number of good features that make computing a much better experience. Can’t go wrong here.

Graphics, Connectivity, and Gaming

There is no discrete graphics card in this laptop. That means you are stuck with the integrated graphics (Intel graphics 620) chip that comes with the processor. Kabylake processors do come with improved gaming performance so that’s going well for us. You can play some mid-range games with this chip but that’s pretty much it. If you are looking to play the latest and the greatest, then you would be better off with a full-fledged gaming laptop.

There are a number of connectivity options. You get both WiFi and Bluetooth as they are pretty much standard in any laptop. You also get the regular ports like 1 USB 3.0 port, 2 USB 2.0 ports, an SD card reader slot, a Super-multi DVD drive and also the regular jacks.

The battery life is average at best. You might be able to squeeze out 4 hours of battery life on a light load. This number goes down when you are doing something more intense.

HP 15-ay191ms Review: Verdict

The HP 15-ay191ms is a nice little laptop for those who are looking for a mobile solution in a budget. It comes with the latest gen processor, decent memory, and also a pretty good all round performance. If you are on the hunt for a machine that won’t cost more but still be able to help you on a daily basis, this laptop is a good choice.
