Design

The design is pretty good. HP has taken the best elements from the MacBook Airs aluminum body and the rotating hinges from Lenovo’s Yoga series and blended them together, making one amazing looking machine.

Looking at the outside shell of this laptop, you won’t find many embellishments on its anodized aluminum chassis, but that is perfectly fine. The words “Hewlett-Packard” has been embossed on the right side of the lid and another logo has been printed under the rear edge of the base. In addition, there’s a tiny slit that runs parallel across the top of the laptop screen, but that is probably hiding the Wi-Fi radio.

With a display like this, it produces bright, detailed images with colors that are highly accurate. When you watch a movie on this laptop, you’ll notice a large portion of detail on the character’s face.

With 8GB of Ram and a 512GB SSD, there’s more than enough performance for entertainment and productivity. When browsing the web in Google Chrome, you won’t notice any form of slowdown, even with 14 tabs open all at one time, with one of those tabs streaming a 1080p video from YouTube. Yes, this is not your everyday usage, but if you someone who does this, then you are good to go.

While on the left side of the laptop, you’ll find an SD card reader, the power port, and a USB 3.0 port.

The webcam is good, but it’s not great – it is capable of producing a grain photo without a large amount of detail. Hair, for example, will appear as blobs without a whole lot of definition, but it can capture color and dimples. Lights behind you may appear blown out, but despite it all, you will be properly exposed.

The battery life is pretty impressive – it offers a total of 8 hours and 26 minutes that involves Web browsing over Wi-Fi. This should be enough to keep you going all day, but if you need to use the laptop for a longer period of time, you can always plug it into the wall.
