LG recently jumped into the laptop game and released two awesome laptops. Today we are going to take a good look at one of those notebooks. In this LG gram 13Z950 review, we’ll be discussing the 13-inch variant and see what it does best.
This laptop is mainly aimed at people who consider themselves mid-range users. This is also perfect for light users as well. With a decent price, this laptop might cut into the market of the competitors and also attract some crowd. But is this laptop right for you? Read our full review and find that out.

This is easily one of the best-designed laptops of this year. LG came up with a good design and has got everyone’s attention. The thinner bezels and a MacBook-like dock, look and feel great. The hinges are also smooth which makes the opening and closing of the lid a neat experience.
The laptop is made of magnesium alloy that is already used in day to day usage in other areas. This makes the laptop stronger, and hopefully we’ll hear fewer cases of broken laptops in the coming months.
The keypad and the trackpad come in white, and it might be a little too white. This is not a full keyboard so be ready to say goodbye to your number pad. The trackpad is responsive and fine. The essential ports can be seen on the sides where they are easier to reach.
One of the biggest advantages here is the form factor. This is a compact laptop. With dimensions of 10.90 x 0.50 x 8.40 inches, it weighs around 980 grams (2.16 pounds). That is insanely light, and this will make a great companion for travel.
LG gram 13Z950 Specs
Let’s talk about the display first. This is a 13.3-inch full HD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. It comes with an IPS panel that leads to excellent viewing angles. The pixel density is brilliant as a result of which the picture quality is just excellent.
The bezels on the sides are also reduced to give an uninterrupted viewing experience. You can enjoy HD media on this display without any issues, and you’ll love the color accuracy if not anything else. For a modern day laptop, this one carries the right screen.
The processor that runs this LG gram 13Z950 laptop is a 5th gen Intel Core i5 chip. This comes straight out of the Broadwell generations of processors and is powerful enough to give you a complete user experience. You can run any third-party applications without any performance issues.
The fan does not start up until you do something really intense. Even when the fan runs, the lot of users have said that it is quiet compared to the fans in other laptops.
With the 8GB of DDR3L RAM, multi-tasking becomes a lot easier. Running apps side by side is smoother and doesn’t take a huge dig on the performance. Thanks to Intel’s Hyperthreading, you can run multithreaded applications without noting any lag.
Some may argue that this memory is not enough in 2015, but in reality more than 90% of applications use way less memory. If you are a mid-range or a light user, then you need not worry about this memory situation as it will hold good at least for a couple years to come.
Now, if you are someone who used 1 or 2TB hard drive, then you’re in for a shock. The LG gram 13Z950 laptop does not come with a traditional hard drive. Instead, it comes with a 128GB SSD that is way more faster than the hard drives. You don’t get a lot of space, to be honest, but the performance is godly.
If you are not ok with the 128 gig version, then you can opt for the 256GB model that is a bit more expensive. If a lot more laptop included solid-state drives instead of hard drives, we could see better performance in our day to day life.
The operating system the LG gram 13Z950 comes with is Windows 10. This latest operating system is excellent update to the not so famous Windows 8.1 and it does a great job overall. With a lineup of new features like Cortana, Edge browser and much more, this OS is a bigger upgrade than you think.
Battery life is another solid feature in this notebook. LG promises a 7.5-hours battery life that should translate into 6 to 6.5 hours of battery life with regular usage. With light usage, you can get a lot more than just 6 hours which again is impressive though nowhere near the likes of MacBook Pros.
There are several connectivity options. The gram laptop is perfect to take advantage of both the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivities. There are a couple of USB 3.0 ports that are great for external connectivity and data transfer. There is also a micro-USB port that should be useful as well.
