Design

It appears as if MSI takes its design cues from sports cars of the modern world. It has a unique, angular design that makes it look powerful and aggressive. The MSI gaming badge located on the lid, like most laptops, gives this even more of a sports care theme.

The laptop is made of a black, brushed aluminium finish. Honestly, believe it or not, it does a pretty good job at covering up fingerprints.

The plastic trackpad, however, feels a bit off. The plastic has been designed to look like that of the brushed aluminium, but despite it all, it has that cheap feel to it.

The keyboard looks amazing and feels excellent. Being that this is a 17-inch laptop, you will find plenty of room on this full-sized keyboard. Your fingers won’t trip over keys as you play games or type. In addition, due to this large size, you will have enough space to rest your palms as you’re typing.

The keys are responsible and have the right amount of spacing. If you have large hands this will be easy for you to use. Speaking of the keyboard, it’s backlit, which is a good feature to have as a gamer – this opens up an endless amount of possibilities as far as customizing colors and displays go.

MSI VR Ready GE72VR Apache Pro-024 Specs

In order to make sure gamers have a good experience, NVIDIA has issued a new family of graphics cards. The GeFORCE GTX 1060 is the name of one of those and that is the one you will find on this laptop.

MSI VR Ready GE72VR Apache Pro-024 notebookIt comes with 6GB GDDR5 Memory and VR support – it’s very impressive. In all actuality, this laptop will give most games +60FPS with the settings on high/ultra and Full HD – this includes games such as GTA 5, Battlefield 4 and Doom 4. Keep in mind that as far as the GPU goes, you cannot upgrade this.

You can also use this laptop for those demanding apps, such as those for photo editing and video editing. To start with, the processor is super fast, allowing you to use it for the heaviest of work. The Intel Core i7-6700HQ is running on four cores, 3.5GHz turbo with 8000 points towards the CPU mark and 2.6GHz clock speed.

As for the memory, there is a total of 12GB DDR4 (4GB and 8GB) sticks and if that isn’t enough for you, you can upgrade it to 32GB.

When it comes to storage, you have a total of two drives inside it. There’s the 1 terabyte 7200RPM SATA hard drive and the 128GB M:2 SATA solid-state drive. This is great because you have a good amount of storage space located on the bigger drive, but with the SSD, you have super fast performance. By the way, the M:2 slot can work with PCIe drives, just in case you want to upgrade in the future.

In terms of connectivity, you have two USB 3.0 and one USB 2.0 ports. You also have a USB 3.1 Type-C port which will work with a variety of external devices. If you would like to hook up an external monitor to the laptop, that shouldn’t be a problem as it has an HDMI 1.4 and miniDisplayPort connectors.

With the networking interfaces, you have both wireless and wired: A/C wireless with Bluetooth 4.0 support and Gigabit RJ-45.

With editing and browsing the web, the battery should last 2 hours. However, if you plan on playing some of your favorite games, it will last for one hour and that’s not desirable at all, so you should keep a power socket nearby during your awesome gaming sessions.

The display is crisp and has good colors, which is easy to believe with the 17.4” non-touch screen that supports Full HD. The anti-glare coating is also pretty good. The refresh rate is nesting at 60hz and unfortunately, G-Sync isn’t available. The webcam takes 30fps 1080p video which is pretty good for chats.
