The laptop takes a cue from all the previous laptops in the Satellite series. The design is very similar, and you won’t be able to tell the difference. When it comes to practicality, the laptop wins. It has a very usable design though it is overused.
You get a full keyboard with a dedicated number pad that can be handy for many out there. The trackpad is a standard offering, but nothing much to talk about. This is a not a laptop that is made for portability. But it just weighs around 5.3 pounds and taking it along with you shouldn’t be a problem if you intend to.
Toshiba Satellite C55DT-B5205 Specs
The 15.6-inch screen is an LED-backlit one with a screen resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. This is your usual HD resolution, and there is nothing special about it. The picture quality is fine with decent viewing angles (not great). But there is something that makes this a far better display.
The display is also a touchscreen! To bring a touchscreen in this price range, you’ve got to give it to Toshiba. The touch sensitivity is good, and you can easily navigate the screen without using the ordinary trackpad.
The Toshiba Satellite C55DT-B5205 packs an AMD A8 6410 processor. This is an accelerated processor that is made for entry-level devices like this one. It has a CPU Mark score of 2519 and is a fine processor when it comes to everyday tasks like browsing the web, sending emails, working on your word document, etc.
The memory here is just 4GB of DDR3 type RAM. Being an entry-level laptop just forces these minimum specs on you. Having said that, there is still lots you can do with this memory. For light users, this memory is more than sufficient for most of the computing needs. If you feel like your performance is being compromised, you can always upgrade the memory later.
There is a 500GB SATA hard drive that can hold all your pictures, videos, movies, songs, and other important stuff. This is an entry-level notebook and this much is a pretty sweet deal if you ask us.
The hard drive also comes with Windows 8 pre-installed. This is not the latest Windows OS out there, and you can easily upgrade to Windows 10. The update is available for free till the June of next year. Do yourself a favor and update the operating system the latest version.
The laptop is not made for gaming. It only comes with integrated graphics and can handle moderate gaming at best. If you are a casual gamer, then you will be okay with this setup. If you are a serious gamer, then you are looking at the wrong notebook.
Battery life is another deciding factor for a lot of buyers and rightly so. With light usage, you can easily get more than 5 to 6 hours of juice from the battery. With normal usage, this number will come down, but it is still manageable. The laptop also has pretty much all the connectivity option you would seek for in a laptop.
Toshiba Satellite C55DT-B5205 Review: The Verdict
This new Toshiba Satellite C55DT-B5205 model is an entry-level laptop that is targeted at light users. For the price, it brings a touchscreen, a decent processor, and a spacious hard drive. We can see a lot of value for money in this laptop, and that’s why we recommend it.
