The ASUS F556UA-AS54 comes in a nice icicle-gold metallic frame. ASUS calls this a timeless design. We are not sure of it but it sure does look good. The laptop feels premium when you hold it in your hand. The device has a sleek profile and weighs only 5.1 pounds. This means you can slide it into your backpack and take it with you without feeling any extra weight.

ASUS seems to have worked on the cooling of this laptop. The ASUS ice cool technology seems to re-imagined the internal layout of the components. It works in such a way that your palm rest area won’t get heated so that you can continue to work long hours without feeling a pinch.

The keyboard is neat and the keys are well spaced. The typing experience is not bad and you should be able to keep your words per minute high. The touchpad is a bigger one. It is 46% bigger than in other models and comes with a lot of gestures that will make your life a lot easier. Overall, a refined design that looks and works well.

ASUS F556UA-AS54 Specs

ASUS F556UA-AS54 laptopFor the display, we have a 15.6-inch LED-backlit display that comes with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. This is a matte display and by that, we mean that the reflections are reduced to a minimum. Thanks for the screen resolution, you can now enjoy all the media in full HD. The viewing angles are also pretty good so you don’t lose a lot of details when viewed from a different angle.

There is a blue light filter in the display that controls the amount of blue light emitted. This blue light is harmful to your eyes and ASUS has done a good job in reducing its output without playing with the originality of the images.

The processor that runs the ASUS F556UA-AS54 is an Intel Core i5 6200U processor. This is a dual-core processor that comes with a typical clock speed of 2.3GHz. With Intel’s turbo boost, you can expect the processor to go up to 2.8GHz when there is a need for more power.

With a Passmark score of around 4000, this processor can handle all your everyday tasks without any problem. You can also run some high-end applications like Photo editors and video editors.

There are 8 gigs of DDR3 RAM in the memory department. This might not look like much but in fact, is more than enough for what most of the users do.  You can run multiple apps at the same time without facing any issues. If you are a multitasker, then this memory will be kind to your needs.

Gaming, Storage and more...

The ASUS F556UA-AS54 laptop comes with only the integrated graphics card. Skylake processors have much better integrated graphics but in comparison with dedicated GPUs, they are not that good.

You can do some light gaming on this laptop without any issues. You may even be able to run some mid-range and heavy games by reducing the settings. If you are a serious gamer, then we suggest you look at some high-end gaming models.

There is a 256GB solid state drive for storage purposes. This is one of the fastest SSDs you can find on a laptop. They are blazing fast and play a very big part in the everyday performance. The boot up times are super fast and you can launch applications in the blink of an eye.

There is definitely a question of space as we only have 256 gigs to play with. If you are really concerned about space, then you can add a hard drive or get an external hard drive. The solid state drive comes with Windows 10 installed which is the latest OS from Microsoft.

The battery life in the ASUS F556UA-AS54 is another advantage. We have a Li-polymer battery and ASUS calls this one 2.5 times better than Li-ion batteries. This 38Whr battery can go on up to 700 charge cycles and can retain 80% of its original charge capacity even after a lot of charge cycles. ASUS promises that there won’t a big deterioration in the performance of the battery.

There are many connectivity options in the ASUS F556UA-AS54 laptop. You get pretty much all the essential ports like USB type C, USB 3.0, USB 2.0, SD card reader, HDMI port and also a VGA port. The laptop also comes with Bluetooth and 802.11ac Wi-Fi connectivity so that you can do more stuff with fewer wires.

ASUS F556UA-AS54 Review: Verdict

That’ll be the end of this ASUS F556UA-AS54 review. Thanks for sticking by. This laptop is an interesting device on its own. It gives you all the stuff you need on an everyday basis. There are not many high-end specs inside this machine but it still manages to get things done. If you are looking for a mid-range laptop on a budget, then this one is a good choice.
