Having a good laptop is essential for any profession. For teachers, it is now more relevant than ever before. In this post, we wanted to show you the best laptop for teachers for the year 2019.

With so many choices out there, we couldn’t just select one laptop. Keeping varied preferences in mind, we have picked five laptops that are absolutely great for the teaching profession.

We have also discussed five honorable mentions that are too good but didn’t make the list.

Below are the five models we think would be great for anyone in the teaching profession.

We did a lot of research and came up with the above list.

Choosing the right laptop for you can be life-changing. So don’t rush the decision.

We want you to make the right choice, so let’s take a good look at each one of these laptops.

Best Laptop for Teachers (Editor’s Choice) – MacBook Pro 13″

MacBook Pro 13"

MacBooks have always been excellent laptops you can rely on, and the new 13″ MacBook Pro is no different.

This MacBook Pro is the latest and the greatest from Apple and is easily the best laptop for teachers.

The 13″ MacBook Pro comes with an Intel Core i5 processor from the 7th generation of Intel chips.

The Core i5 chip has a clock speed of 3.1GHz and can go up to 3.5GHz which is a lot of power. The processor is optimized for the operating system and with that, you can super smooth operation at all places.

When it comes to running applications, this Intel chip can do it all. Apple has done an excellent job of keeping the clock speed high so that you can have enough power for all your everyday needs.

There are eight gigs of LPDDR3 type RAM, and it’s great for multitasking. You can use more than a couple of apps at the same time and still face no lag.

The display is one of the best and comes with a resolution of 2560 x1600 pixels. Apple calls this the Retina display, and it has more pixels than in a Quad-HD display.

This screen comes with excellent color accuracy and is one of the best displays out there.

It is great for both work and play. You can enjoy watching movies and your favorite Netflix shows with great detail.

Why is the MacBook Pro an excellent choice for teachers?

The MacBook Pro is a very portable laptop. You can take this to the class with you every day of the week. You can work on anything pretty much anywhere, thanks to the size factor.

It is the most beautiful laptop you can find. The build quality is fantastic, and you’ll know that when you pick one up. It is the right weight, and the hinges are so smooth, you can lift the screen with just one finger.

The MacBook Pro is not just looks but is also a super fast laptop. That’s partly because of the storage. We have a 256GB solid-state drive, and it is blazing fast.

The reading and writing speeds are in upwards of 700Mb/s, and that’s not something you can say about every SSD out there in the market.

Also, the MacBook Pro comes with one of the best battery lives. With a light load, the laptop can last for about 10 hours which is pretty cool. You can charge the laptop once and get through an entire day with a single charge.

But this Apple laptop is not a perfect laptop by any means.

One thing that bothers us is the lack of a discrete graphics card.

The graphics card here is the Intel Iris Plus Graphics 650. This GPU is an integrated one and is great for applications and other software.

It is not that great for playing games. Even with the OS optimization, the laptop does not fare well when it comes to gaming.

The laptop comes with four USB C ports, and that’s it for the ports. These USB type C ports are great for data transfer. You can use any port to charge the device and also for connectivity.

But we still have a lot of devices that use older ports. To connect them to this laptop, you need dongles, and that adds up to the cost. They do not cost that much, but it’s still extra.

To sum it up, the 13″ MacBook Pro is our choice of laptop for teachers. It has excellent processing power and is great for portability. If you are looking for a laptop that’s great for all occasions, this is the one.

  • Excellent all-round laptop
  • Great Display and battery life
  • Excellent portability

  • Not for gamers

Best Windows Laptop – Microsoft Surface Laptop 2

Microsoft Surface laptop 2

The Surface Laptop  2 is easily the best Windows laptop for Teachers.

You get the best Windows experience, and the hardware is also excellent.

The Surface Laptop comes in a beautiful industrial build. It has a sleek finish and gives a premium look and feel.

The laptop comes in three colors namely Burgundy, Cobalt, and Platinum. These are not the usual colors we are used to, and they do add to one’s taste.

The display on this laptop is gorgeous. We have a 13.5″ PixelSense display that comes with a resolution of 2256 x 1504 pixels.

The display comes with an aspect ratio of 3:2 and is pretty accurate when it comes to color reproduction. It is excellent for both work and media consumption as well.

Another nice touch is that the display is a touchscreen (see what we did there). As a teacher, you can edit stuff then and there with the Surface pen that works on the laptop’s display.

The Surface Book 2 is equipped with an Intel Core i5 processor. This chip here is a quad-core chip and comes with a clocking frequency of 1.3GHz. With the help of turbo boost, the laptop can go up to a maximum of 2.7GHz.

When it comes to performance, the processor and the 16GB DDR4 type memory knock it off the park. You can run pretty much any application on this laptop smoothly without any performance issues.

You can multitask your heart out, thanks to the 16GB memory. Running more applications alongside is fantastic for productivity and will come in handy in the teaching profession.

As a teacher, you can use this laptop to full effect. It is super portable, and it brings the best of Windows OS which is great for collaboration with students.

The storage here is a 512GB solid-state drive. This SSD storage is adequate for most users and is more than enough for teachers unless they carry big libraries of files with them.

Though not as fast as MacBook Pro’s SSD, the ones here are pretty fast. If you are coming from a traditional hard drive, you will notice the improvements right away.

The battery life is impressive as well. With a light load, you should be able to get around 10 hours of juice without any issues. Even with a heavy load, the laptop will last for about 5 to 6 hours which is neat.

Overall, the Microsoft Surface Book 2 is an excellent laptop for Windows users. If you prefer Windows, then we would even call this the best laptop for teachers. Though a bit expensive this laptop hits all the marks with consistency.

  • Great build quality
  • Excellent display
  • Powerful and sleek

  • Not affordable for all

Laptop with Best Display – Dell XPS9560-7001SLV-PUS

Dell XPS9560-7001SLV-PUS

The Dell XPS9560-7001SLV-PUS comes with probably the best display in the industry.

The laptop rocks a 15.6″ LED-backlit display with a resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels a.k.a. 4K resolution.

It doesn’t end with the resolution. The bezels of the display are so small all you can see on the screen is just the content. To facilitate these small bezels, Dell has moved the webcam to the bottom bezel which is a lot bigger than the other ones.

The display comes with an excellent contrast ratio and is very color accurate. Also, the display is a touchscreen which means you can do a lot more by interacting with the elements on the screen.

If you’re a teacher in an art school or where you enjoy appreciating creative works of students, then this display is something you want in your arsenal.

The Dell XPS9560-7001SLV-PUS runs with an Intel Core i7 7700HQ at its heart. This quad-core processor runs with a clocking frequency of up to 3.8GHz.

The processor also has a cache of 6MB which is pretty good when dealing with common apps.

The processor is a powerful one, and with the 16GB DDR4 type memory, you can run almost any application you want to on this laptop. Since this is a laptop with a 4K display, you need a powerful processor like this one to power those pixels.

Another gem in this model’s cap is the 512GB solid-state drive. The SSD is fast and elevates the computing experience to a whole another level.

The Dell XPS9560-7001SLV-PUS comes with Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050. This discrete graphics card has a dedicated video memory of 2GB.

This graphics card is a mid-range one and can help you play a good number of recent games. You can play games like FIFA 19, Team Fortress 2, Forza Horizon 4, Witcher 3, Far Cry 5, and The Crew with medium settings and get around 50 frames per second.

Even though the laptop comes with a 4K display, you can’t play games with ultra settings as the GPU is not cut out for it.

Overall, the Dell XPS9560-7001SLV-PUS laptop is undoubtedly one of the best laptops for teachers and, in our opinion, has the best display out there. If having a 4K screen is a priority, this laptop is a good pick.

  • Best Display in any laptop

  • Front facing camera is in a weird position

Laptop with Best Battery Life – LG Gram 15Z980-AAS7U1

LG Gram 15Z980-AAS7U1

For teachers, we think that the battery life of a laptop is vital. That’s why we made a category separately for the laptop with the best battery life.

The LG Gram 15Z980-AAS7U1, after testing many models, came out on top when it comes to battery life.

LG promises a battery life of 16.5 hours which is the most we’ve seen from any manufacturer.

But how accurate is it in real life? The claim can hold true for a light load. Just using the browser, working on some office apps, and doing nothing heavy can give you that battery life.

When you are going to do some heavy lifting, you can’t expect such numbers. Depending on how heavy the work is, you should get around 5 to 8 hours of battery life. Even this number is pretty good and unmatched.

How powerful is the LG Gram 14Z970-A.AAS7U1?

The laptop comes with an Intel Core i7 8850 processor. This chip is a quad-core one and comes with a clock speed of 1.8GHz. With the help of turbo boost, the processor can clock up to 4.9GHz.

When it comes to performance, the processor is very efficient. It gets a CPUMark score of 8325 which tells us how good it is. You can run even the heaviest of apps, and this chip will handle it well.

The memory department has eight gigs of DDR4 type RAM. This memory is more than enough for most teachers out there. If you are in school, you should be fine, but if you are in college, your needs may vary.

One thing we must talk about is the display here.

We have a 15.6″ display with a full HD resolution. The unique aspect here is that you get super small bezels around the screen. These bezels reduce the overall footprint of the laptops as well.

One good thing to note that they have reduced the bezel without changing the position of the webcam. So you are not going to be in a weird angle when doing your next video call which is great.

Also, the display doubles up as a touchscreen as well.

Even with a 15.6″ screen, this LG Gram model is very portable. The laptop weighs only 2.5 pounds, and you can easily slide it in your backpack when you are going out.

Overall, the LG Gram 14Z970-A.AAS7U1 is an impressive laptop with excellent battery life. If you value battery life over everything else, then this is the laptop you want to have.

Let’s take a look at those five honorable mentions.

Best Laptop Teachers – Honorable Mentions

ASUS ZenBook 14

ASUS ZenBook 14

The ASUS ZenBook 14 laptop is the first of our honorable mentions. This laptop is one of the best laptops for teachers for so many reasons.

The laptop has a nice build and comes in a small footprint, thanks to the 14″ display as opposed to the 15.6″ display in other laptops.

The display has a full HD resolution with excellent colors and contrast ratio. What makes this display even better is the fact that the bezels are super small. ASUS calls it the nano-edge bezel display. This 14″ display is fitted in a 13.3″ body, and that’s awesome for portability.

The laptop is also great for multitasking. We have 16 gigs of DDR4 RAM that allow us to utilize more than one application at the same time. Usually, laptops in this price range will not have 16GB RAM, and that itself is a big plus here.

The storage here is made of a 512GB solid-state drive. This SSD brings in a lot of space for all your storage needs. It also brings enhanced performance as well. You can boot up Windows in a few seconds and load up any app at fast speeds.

The laptop weighs just 2.75 pounds which makes it easy to carry around. Also, having a fingerprint reader is an essential security these days.

For a teacher, you need a sturdy, stylish, dependable and portable laptop. The ASUS ZenBook 14 ticks all the boxes. Go with this model if you desire the stuff mentioned above.

  • Sleek display with nano-edge bezels

Google PixelBook

Google PixelBook

The Google PixelBook is different from other laptops in this list. It is a hybrid device and can double up as a tablet as well.

But the unique thing about the Google PixelBook is that it comes with ChromeOS.

Yes, this laptop is a Chromebook.

Chromebooks are made for people who usually do everything online, and teachers are great for that computing lifestyle.

You can share your Google docs with your students. Make presentations and share them on your classroom projector. Put your class notes on your Google Drive and many more.

Yes, you can do this on merely any other device as well. But the experience is much better in a Chromebook.

The laptop is powered by an Intel Core i5 processor from the 7th gen of Intel chips. Since you are not going to run heavy applications, the processor is going to do a fine job.

The 8GB memory complements the processor. You can multitask without having to worry about performance lags, even though it’s just eight gigs.

There are 128 gigs of SSD storage in the laptop. Chromebooks usually don’t come with this much storage as most operations are expected to happen in the cloud. But the Google PixelBook gives you the benefit of a bit more offline storage.

If you are into the Google ecosystem, then you will find the built-in Google Assistant key useful. You can also just say ‘Ok Google’ to bring the assistant to life.

Gaming is not really an option since you are dealing with ChromeOS here. Also, we only have an integrated graphics card at our disposal.

The battery life is pretty good and can last up to 8 hours depending on the user.

If you are an internet savvy teacher, you will find this Chromebook attractive.

  • Hybrid functionality
  • Fast charging gives you 2 hours of use in 15 minutes

For storage, we have a 256GB NVMe M.2 solid-state drive. This drive is very fast when it comes to reading and writing. You can get up to 17x faster performance if you are coming from a traditional hard drive.

One pitfall in the HP Envy laptop is that it comes only with an integrated graphics card. This doesn’t allow you to game a lot. If you are a gamer, then you will be missing out. However, the laptop can still play some mid-range games with medium settings.

The battery life of the HP Envy laptop is another plus. With light usage, you can get around 12 hours of use. With just video playback, you can easily get 8 to 10 hours which is impressive.

Acer Aspire E 15 E5-575G-57D4

Acer Aspire E 15 E5-575G-57D4

The Acer Aspire E 15 E5-575G-57D4 is the best budget laptop for teachers.

It comes with a price tag of under $800 and doesn’t compromise on any significant hardware.

The build quality is on point with Acer’s classic texture on top of the lid. It is not like the other sleek laptops we’ve seen on this list. There is a bit of bulk to the laptop, but hey, we can’t expect everything in this budget price.

The display here is a 15.6″ screen with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. The display supports Acer’s colorblast technology, and as a result, you get very good colors.

The display has excellent viewing angles and it perfect for watching movies and Netflix. The widescreen is also apt for running two apps running side by side. This is crucial for productivity.

There are eight gigs of RAM that are great for memory management. You can multitask efficiently; no problems there.

Even though this is the most affordable laptop on the list, it comes with a discrete graphics card. We have the Nvidia GeForce 940MX with a dedicated video memory of 2GB.

The graphics card allows you to play most of the mid-range games without much compromise. If you want to play graphically intense games, then you will have to reduce the settings to low.

With 256GB SSD storage in hand, you should be fine. The SSD also chimes in performance improvements as well. The applications will load up a lot faster when compared to mechanical devices.

The battery life is another advantage in the laptop. Even with a heavy load, the notebook should last for about 4 to 6 hours which is pretty good.

To sum it up, the Acer Aspire E 15 E5-575G-57D4 is a not-so-expensive laptop that comes with all the bells and whistles a teacher would need. If you can’t spend more than a grand for your professional notebook, this one fits the bill.

  • More affordable than others in the list
  • Discrete graphics card means better gaming

  • Not the most premium experience

MSI GS63VR Stealth Pro-230

MSI GS63VR Stealth Pro-230

It is unfair to assume that teachers don’t play games.

If you are a teacher who plays games, then this MSI GS63VR Stealth Pro-230 model is here for you.

The MSI GS63VR Stealth Pro-230 is a hardcore gaming machine that comes with all the stuff a gamer needs.

The first thing you’re going to notice in this model is the display. We have a 15.6″ display that comes with a full HD resolution. The colors on the screen are pretty accurate and great for playing games. The viewing angles are also excellent at 170 degrees.

The keyboard is a SteelSeries RGB keyboard which is excellent for gaming. The backlights are colorful and can be programmed. The keys have good travel which also means you can have a neat typing experience. The touchpad, on the other hand, is pretty decent but nothing extraordinary.

The MSI GS63VR Stealth Pro-230 comes with Cooler Blast Trinity cooling system. Five heat pipes are used to cool both the CPU and the GPU. This cooling ensures maximum performance even during heavy gaming sessions.

The CPU here is the Intel Core i7 processor. This quad-core chip is one of the most powerful 7th gen Intel chips on the market. Though it’s not the latest, the processor still rocks enough power to handle even your power-hungry applications.

We’ve seen laptops with 8GB memory on this list. But gaming laptops need a bit more than that.

Here we have 16 gigs of DDR4 memory which is perfect for the next few years. It is great for both games and also for everyday multitasking.

The MSI GS63VR Stealth Pro-230 comes with Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 graphics card. The GPU comes with a dedicated memory of 6GB is more than enough.

The graphics card allows you to play pretty much any game out there. You can keep the settings high and play without making any compromises. Maybe for a few high-end games, you may have to tone down the settings to medium. Otherwise, you are good.

The storage here is made up of a 256GB solid-state drive. The SSD is great for booting up and also for launching games and apps.

One thing we don’t like about the MSI GS63VR Stealth Pro-230 laptop is the battery. Being a gaming laptop, the battery life is not that great. With a light load, you may be able to keep the juice going for 6 hours. But when playing, getting 2 to 3 hours is what you can expect.

We know that this laptop is not the go-to laptop for all the teachers out there. But if you are a teacher who is also a gamer, then this laptop will serve you well.

  • A perfect gamer’s laptop
  • Thin profile with a robust cooling system

  • Battery life isn’t great

What to Look For in the Best Laptop for Teachers?

We know you are keen on picking up your next laptop. Let’s see the things that can make or break your computing experience.

How Much Power Do You Need?

How powerful should your laptop be?

Do you really want a powerful laptop?

These are some questions you should ask yourself because they are essential.

If you run any heavy applications on your laptop, then you need a powerful processor like the i5 or i7 chip. A quad-core processor is best suited for dealing with power-hungry apps.

If your work doesn’t require a lot of power, then you should be fine with a dual-core chip.

Your processor should be able to deal with everyday applications and UI elements smoothly. It should also boot up quickly and launch apps at a reasonable speed.

You should be fine if you have a recent Intel or AMD processor on your laptop.

The memory in the laptop allows you to perform any task you want freely.

If you want to do multiple things at the same time, then you need a decent amount of memory.

Let’s say you’re not that heavy on multitasking. In this case, you can get away with just four gigs of RAM.

If you are a multitasker, then the more, the merrier.

We recommend a minimum of 8GB DDR4 RAM in modern day laptops.

If you are serious about your laptop, then you should have 16 gigs or more. This memory will allow you to do much more and it also future-proofs your machine.

When it comes to storage, the more you can have is always better.

But things have changed a bit when it comes to storage in laptops.

The old mechanical drives are not that great anymore. People have started to move toward solid-state drives.

Solid-state drives are blazingly fast when it comes to reading and writing speeds. They can boot up your operating system in just seconds. Applications will load a lot faster as well.

One problem with SSDs is that they are expensive. So think twice before you go for a 1TB SSD because that will put a hole in your bank account.

The absolute minimum storage for us is 256GB. If you can afford more then 512 gigs of SSD storage can never hurt as well.

Teachers can play games. Right?

If you are one of those gamer teachers, then it is essential that you have a good graphics card in your laptop.

While Apple laptops are great for everyday use, they are not that good when it comes to gaming. So stay away from them if you are serious about gaming.

Any Windows laptop with a good discrete graphics card can do a good job here.

Playing the latest and the most celebrated games is only possible when you have a good GPU in place.

The MSI laptop we talked about is an excellent choice for gamers as it came with superior specs and proven real-life performance.

The graphics performance of the laptop is not only for gaming.

If you are a teacher who runs heavy 3D objects, then you need a powerful GPU in hand.

Either way, having a good GPU in your laptop is necessary.

If you are a teacher who uses the projector a lot, then you need supporting ports on your laptop.

Most modern laptops come with USB C or USB 3.0/2.0 ports. Some even come with a display port as well.

In most cases, you have to get dongles to support projectors and other peripherals.

Battery Life

Battery life is paramount for a laptop, especially for teachers.

You need a laptop that you can confidently take with you without having a fear of battery dying.

Any laptop that can last a whole day in school or college is what we need.

Modern laptops have improved a lot and can last a lot longer these days.

But when it comes to battery life, Apple takes the cake. It is the single most consistent device that lasted long over the years.

If you want your laptop to last an entire day with a single charge, then the MacBook Pro 13″ is the best choice for you.

If you prefer Windows over MacOS, then the latest LG Gram does an astounding job. LG promises a battery life of 14.5 hours. Though you won’t get that much juice, you still have a long lasting laptop in your hands.

How Do You Like Your Display?

The size of your laptop display is important.

Do you prefer a big 17.3″ screen or a 13″ display?

If you consume a lot of media, then we would say that a bigger screen is the way to go.

In this case, going with a 15.6″ or a 17.3″ screen would make the most sense.

Make sure that you get a good resolution such as Full HD or QHD. This resolution will make sure your picture looks good on the bigger screen,

If you are on the move a lot, then a smaller screen is a better idea. It will reduce the weight. You can also open it up in a coffee shop, and go about your work.

When it comes to smaller screens, the standard size is 13.3 inches.

The screen size makes up for the whole the visual experience. So be sure to pick your display right.

Brightness Levels

The brightness of your screen is another important factor.

Teachers usually use their laptops in well-lit environments. If that’s the case for you as well, you need a screen with good brightness.

Having good brightness also allows you to work even in direct sunlight, and that’s a plus.

The average brightness you’d expect in a laptop is about 307 nits.

The Microsoft Surface Book 2 has the most brightness at 417 nits. If you are a fan of Mac, then the MacBook Pro has a brightness of 354 nits.

Just be sure to not go below the average brightness mentioned above, and you’ll be fine.

Matte/Glossy Display

Some people have particular preferences.

What kind of display do you prefer? A matte screen or a glossy one?

The advantage with a matte display is that you will not get a lot of reflections. The displays are great to look from the sides as well.

That is not that case when it comes to glossy displays. But you can get high brightness with these displays, and that’s a distinct advantage.

Most modern-day laptops come with a semi-glossy display. If you want the best laptop out there, then you will have to settle with this kind of screen.

Operating System Preference

Which operating system do you prefer?

If you are a Windows user, then there are many options out there.

If you are a Mac user, then you also have a nice selection of laptops to choose from.

The software you use also plays a part here. If it is available on both platforms, then you are fine.

If the application you want to use is Mac only, then you have to go with a Mac. This same is true if your software of choice of pro-Windows.

But be informed that both operating systems are great for the teaching profession.

They have their own set of applications to get the same thing done.

If you prefer a smooth and fluid OS operation, then MacOS is a good candidate.

If you want more power and customization, then Windows is the way to go.

Best Laptop For Teachers – Wrap Up

We hope you found the right laptop that matches your style and needs.

If you ask us to name one laptop that would suit any teacher, then we would go with the 13″ MacBook Pro.

If you’re a fan of Windows, then the Microsoft Surface Laptop 2 is the way to go.

Do you think there are better laptops out there for teachers?
